Paintings and Drawings
At The Gilded Corner – we love working with original artwork to enhance your home or office space. Artwork comes in many forms. Drawings are created using pencil, pastels, inks and charcoal. Paintings include oils, acrylics, watercolours and mixed media done on a variety of surfaces – such as paper, canvas or an actual object.
Other artwork includes – gouaches, pastels, etchings, engravings, woodblocks, lithographs, silkscreens and professional photographs. All of them are valuable pieces and need to be treated with great care so you can enjoy them for years and years to come.
My role in working with your valued artwork is to accentuate the art and preserve it from deterioration. Depending on the piece it may be simply framed in a classic or floater style. Other pieces require matting and glazed (glass) finishing.
Matting is important for many pieces of artwork for the following reasons:
- Provides a rigid support that prevents bending/folding and other damages that might occur when artwork is being handled and touched.
- Separates the work of art from the glazed surface, creating a “breathing space.” Artwork should NEVER be placed directly against the glazed surface.
- Prevents “ghosting”, which is the transfer of charcoal and pastels onto the glass.
- Accentuates the colours and aesthetics that are present in the artwork itself.
